Report: Rahami’s Father Alerted the Cops to Son’s Terrorist Leanings Two Years Ago
Where have we heard this before?
Like the Planned Parenthood shooter had a criminal history, the Nice attacker was “known to police,” and the Orlando shooter had been investigated by the FBI in 2013 and 2014, the man who is suspected of plating bombs around New York and New Jersey last weekend was once reviewed by federal agents.
Ahmad Khan Rahami‘s father, who yesterday said he hadn’t been aware of any bombing plans, told the police that his son was a terrorist two years ago, according to the New York Times. The FBI in Newark conducted an assessment and interviewed the father. He recanted, saying he had said that about his child out of anger.
It is not clear if Rahami himself was ever interviewed.
The father’s anger stemmed from a domestic incident between Rahami and his brother. His brother was stabbed and Rahami spent three months in jail.
From the NYT piece:
On Tuesday morning, outside the family’s restaurant in Elizabeth, the father, Mohammad Rahami, told reporters, “I called the F.B.I. two years ago,” he said, shaking his fingers in the air.
Asked if he specifically meant his son, Mr. Rahami stormed away. A short time later, he responded to a reporter who asked, “Do you think your son is a terrorist?”
“No,” Mohammad Rahami said. “And the F.B.I., they know that.”
That…doesn’t help make sense of any of this.
