The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, appeared on Face the Nation, Sunday, to defend the Trump administration’s policies on the international stage, but when host John Dickerson grilled her over Russian involvement in the presidential election, Haley bluntly admitted that their meddling was common knowledge.
“We don’t trust Russia. I think we’re all aware that Russia was involved in the election,” she said.”That’s a very real thing.”
While it’s no secret that Russia tried to tip the scales in favor of Donald Trump — a bipartisan consensus of lawmakers and the FBI have now all conceded the point — it was still noteworthy to hear the admission come from a cabinet level White House official.
Trump and press secretary Sean Spicer have regularly tried to downplay the administration’s Russia connections, with the president suggesting that illegal leaks were the real story the media should be focused on.
