As Donald Trump continues his march towards the general election, another high-ranking national security official is blasting the mogul for what he sees as a troubling lack of foreign policy knowledge.
Barry McCaffrey is a retired four-star general who served under George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, and he penned an op-ed for Seattle Times where he called Trump an “abusive braggart” who would certainly create a “constitutional crisis.”
McCaffrey said Trump was “cruel” to feud with Khizr Khan‘s family the way he did last week, and that the mogul’s comments about NATO, Saddam Hussein, and his flirtations with Vladimir Putin were just some of several causes for concern.
“Trump has boasted that his Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps time at a small military high school made him more knowledgeable about national security than most career military professionals,” McCaffrey wrote. “He is remarkably ignorant and uneducated about the world that we face and the means we may use to defend ourselves.”
