Report: Longtime ESPN Radio Duo Mike & Mike to Split After 18 Years

Screen Shot 2017-01-12 at 12.44.57 PM (2)After 18 years together as hosts of Mike & Mike — one of the most widely listened to and well-known sports talk radio shows in the country — Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic are apparently going their separate ways.

Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated reports that Mike Greenberg is being moved over to ESPN as the lead host of a new morning show. The new show, according to Deitsch, would be a hybrid of sorts — combining elements of the network’s flagship show SportsCenter with elements of a traditional morning show.

Golic will remain on the radio show with Trey Wingo being the frontrunner to join him, according to Deitsch. Golic’s son, Mike Golic Jr. (who Mediaite readers may be familiar with as the star of an ESPN programming stunt in which he did nothing but ate cookies and drank milk for an hour on Christmas morning) is also going to be part of the new show.

The move for the show, which is simulcast on ESPN2, had been rumored for some time. Deitsch first reported that the split was a possibility back in September.

There has been other shuffling in the ESPN morning lineup of late. Last week, ESPN First Take — the morning debate program which features Stephen A. Smith — moved from its longtime home on ESPN2 over to ESPN.

There is no exact timetable for the split, but per the SI report, it will happen “sooner than later.”
