Top Republicans are in panic mode, hoping to contain the sweaty disaster that is Donald Trump and keep it from spreading to down ticket races, according to a new report in Politico.
Anna Palmer reports that more than 70 GOP leaders are penning an open letter to RNC chair Reince Priebus, asking that the committee cut the Trump campaign off from party funds and redirect that money toward trying to hold onto the House and Senate.
“We believe that Donald Trump’s divisiveness, recklessness, incompetence, and record-breaking unpopularity risk turning this election into a Democratic landslide, and only the immediate shift of all available RNC resources to vulnerable Senate and House races will prevent the GOP from drowning with a Trump-emblazoned anchor around its neck,” the draft reportedly says.
“This should not be a difficult decision, as Donald Trump’s chances of being elected president are evaporating by the day.”
The letter specifically lists several “dangerous authoritarian tendencies” exhibited by Trump.
The signatories include a former senator, former congressmen, and a host of former RNC staffers.
