Senator Roy Blunt is becoming a king of swift burns. Back in 2012, he dismissed Michelle Malkin after she called him out on his stance on Obamacare without warning by directing her to a page about his stances on the issue, then plain old ignoring her when she followed up a bit too aggressively. Today, he one-upped that spectacle of affected indifference with this statement about Donald Trump‘s most recent headline-grabbing antics, which says a lot more between the lines than it does up front:

In case you haven’t heard, Trump went after Khizr Khan and his wife, Ghazala Khan, after they spoke at the Democratic National Convention and stole the show. The two are Muslims and parents of a fallen soldier, so once Trump and his associates lashed out at them, there was an immediate ripple of outrage and defensiveness.
Blunt wants no part of the self-perpetuating headlines. He told Trump, the nominee of his own party, to stop talking.
Will Trump listen or will he do the exact opposite and lash out at Blunt?
