Ronan Farrow: Weinstein Scandal ‘Shows Dark Side of How Media Treats Powerful Men’

In a recent Twitter thread, journalist Ronan Farrow unleashed on the “dark side” of the media that spent years protecting Harvey Weinstein from being exposed as an alleged serial sexual abuser.

In a lengthy tweetstorm, the reporter who broke two major stories on the Weinstein misconduct scandal in The New Yorker elaborated on both those in media who helped take-down the Hollywood mogul and those who defended him. “This story shows dark side of how media treats powerful men but also reminds us brave people are still defending the truth,” tweeted Farrow on Tuesday.

Additionally, Farrow gave a shout-out to David Remnick, David Rohde, Deirdre Foley-Mendel, Michael Luo, Fabio Bertoni, Fergus McIntosh, and Natalie Raabe of The New Yorker for assisting him in getting the piece edited, fact-checked, and published. He also thanked NBC News producer Rich McHugh who helped Farrow, despite his network spiking the story — allowing The New Yorker to publish it instead.

After Farrow broke open the Weinstein scandal open with his first New Yorker piece, “From Aggressive Overtures to Sexual Assault: Harvey Weinstein’s Accusers Tell Their Stories,” he proceeded to expose the powerful people in media and law who protected the film producer in a follow-up article titled, “Harvey Weinstein’s Army of Spies.” His second piece detailed how former Israeli Massad agents, private investigators, and loaded lawyers attacked the many women and journalists who attempted to expose Weinstein’s sins.
