Fox News head honcho Rupert Murdoch weighed in on the tragic shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut earlier today with a call for politicians to deal with banning automatic weapons. Murdoch, a gun control advocate, pointed to action taken in Australia after a similar tragedy occurred.
In a surprising contrast to the Obama administration making it clear today now is not the time to talk about new gun laws, Murdoch tweeted tonight that it would be a mistake for the White House and Congress to not take action following this tragedy.
While none of the guns used in the Connecticut shooting were automatic weapons, as opposed to semi-automatic ones, it’s unquestionably a sign that Murdoch is not joining the chorus of people saying now is not the time to talk about gun control. And this is not the first time Murdoch has called for gun control following a tragic shooting. After the Aurora movie theater shooting several months ago, Murdoch tweeted, “We have to do something about gun controls.”
