Russian-Installed Crimean Leader Tweets Racist Attack on Obama (UPDATED)

(UPDATE): The account that was associated with Aksyonov has been revealed to be a fake Twitter account.

The Russian-backed appointed head of occupied Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, took to his unverified Twitter account on Tuesday where he hurled racist insults at President Barack Obama.

According to the rough translation of Aksyonov’s remarks, via Bing, the acting Crimean leader suggested that Obama take up a place in the Moscow zoo alongside “the apes.”

“It was proposed that upon accession United States to Russia, Obama sent to the Moscow Zoo. Let sit among the apes,” the translation read. “Accepted.”

This is not the first time that pro-Russian figures have directed racist or insulting remarks toward the president.

“Interestingly, after the success of the company in returning Crimea, Barack is getting the rank of colonel,” Aksyonov tweeted in mid-March along with a photo shopped image of the president in a Russian Navy uniform.

Last year, a Russian figure skater, Olympic torch-bearer, and a prominent member of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia Party tweeted a racist image of the president and the first lady.
