Second Ebola Nurse Free of Virus, Set to Leave Hospital
Amber Vinson, the second health care worker to contract ebola from initial patient Thomas Eric Duncan, was declared free of the virus Tuesday and will be released from Emory University Hospital Tuesday. She is expected to give a press conference at 1 p.m.
Vinson contracted the virus while caring for Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital earlier this month. She became symptomatic one day after flying from Cleveland to Dallas, raising concerns about CDC self-isolation protocols.
Vinson first tested clear of the virus on October 21, and it has not reappeared in the week since, according to her family.
Nina Pham, the first health care worker to contract the virus, was released from the hospital Friday and got a hug from President Barack Obama out of the whole thing. Dr. Craig Spencer, a New York City doctor who tested positive for the virus last week, is now the only case in the U.S.
