Secret Service Agent Suspended for Flirting, Sexting During Michelle Obama Event
A Secret Service agent has been placed on administrative leave due to an investigation of lewd texts sent to a woman following an event with First Lady Michelle Obama, according to The Washington Post.
Obama was speaking alongside former Republican senator Elizabeth Dole at an event honoring military caregivers. During the event, the agent met the young woman, later described as “a prominent Washington, D.C. staffer” by the National Enquirer, and sent her a text containing references to oral sex, as well as a lewd picture of himself.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of these allegations,” said spokesperson Brian Leary. “At this time, the individual has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.” Leary also mentioned that the Department of Homeland Security would follow its misconduct allegations policy and conduct its own parallel investigation to that of the USSS.
Leary stated that the agent was part of “outer-ring security” during the event and not a regular part of the First Lady’s inner detail. He also insisted that the agent was “on his game” during the event and only sent the suggestive messages after going off-duty nine hours later.
The Secret Service has faced a series of issues recently regarding security and the conduct of it’s operatives. A fence-jumper made it through several security points at the White House last year, and a supervisor was suspended in April following allegations of sexual assault.
