Sharpton Says He’s Received Threats over NYPD Murders
During a Sunday press conference Reverend Al Sharpton said he had received several threats following the murder of two NYPD officers in Bedstuy Saturday night.
“The language is ‘Hey N word, stop killing innocent people, I’m going to get you,” and I have several like this,” Sharpton said. “We are now under intense threat from those that are misguided, by those that are trying to blame everyone from civil rights leaders to the mayor rather than deal with an ugly spirit that all of us need to fight.”
Gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley intimated in a final Instagram post that he sought revenge for the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Almost no time was wasted before Sharpton, who was been in the middle of both the Brown and Garner cases, was blamed for creating an anti-cop atmosphere that supposedly enabled the shooter. NYPD Union Chief Pat Lynch added that Gotham Mayor Bill de Blasio had “blood on his hands,” a sentiment echoed by numerous other figures.
“To blame the mayor and others is not what we need,” he said. “The blame game will only lead to further venom and further division.”
