Shepard Smith Rebukes Trump’s Russia Dismissals After Indictment: ‘This Is Not a Hoax’

“If there was ever any question, even a single question, there is no more. Russia attacked the United States of America.”

That was how Fox News’ Shepard Smith opened his show today covering the big breaking news of indictments against Russians involved in U.S. election meddling.

“The Russians infiltrated our system,” Smith said, “manipulated us on behalf of Vladimir Putin, and they did it online and in person, on our soil.”

He recapped all the stunning details from the indictment today and said, “The Russians attacked our democracy, they’re attacking it now, and they’re coming for us in the 2018 midterms.”

Later on in the program, however, Smith more directly rebuked what President Trump has said in the past about the Russian “hoax.”

He brought up the part of the indictment concerning “unwitting” people connected to the Trump campaign and said, “The Russia investigation is not a hoax. Russians have now been indicted.”

Smith recalled the “distraction memo from Devin Nunes” and how the President tweeted this shortly after:

After reading that last sentence, Smith said, “No, this is an American investigation. And this is not a hoax. The Russians interfered, the Russians were given sanctions by the Congress, the President has not put those sanctions into place, and the question is why.”
