Slate Lost Two Major Writers in the Time it Took for You to Read This Headline

Slate lost two major figures almost simultaneously Tuesday, as writer Emily Bazelon joined the New York Times Magazine and senior political writer Dave Weigel departed for Bloomberg Politics.

Bazelon is the author of Sticks and Stones, a book about the cultural and legal issues surrounding bullying, and covered a wide array of political and cultural stories for both Slate and its blog DoubleXX. She joins New York Times Magazine, for which she has written for several years, and which is undergoing a reconfiguration with new leadership in the guise of former Texas Monthly editor Jake Silverstein.

Weigel has been Slate’s political reporter and blogger for several years and is currently working on a book about prog rock. Bloomberg Politics, a new venture helmed by Game Change authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, is set to be a significant force in political coverage, especially in advance of the 2016 presidential elections.
