SNL Cast Member Says Trump Blatantly Faked Phone Call to Brag About His Book

Back in the days when Donald Trump didn’t have the nuclear codes, he went on Saturday Night Live and faked phone calls declaring his book a bestseller.

This story might have been funnier if he didn’t, you know, have the nuclear codes.

But here we are, and SNL‘s Pete Davidson swears “on his life” that Trump faked a phone call during a table read while rehearsing for a 2015 episode of the long-running weekly sketch show and it sounds totally plausible and very Trumpian.

“He was, like, weird all week,” Davidson said of working with Trump during an episode of Open Late.

He then launched into an impression of him faking a call.

“He was like, ‘Hello.’ He goes, ‘Fantastic. OK great.’ And then he hung up and he goes, ‘Hey, everybody! My book just went No. 1!’ I swear on my life,” Davidson said.

“We were all, like, ‘Yo, that phone didn’t ring. And, like, also, like, how did he have time to say that? ‘Cause you answered and went, ‘Yup, oh my God.’ He didn’t even go, ‘Hello? [pause] Oh, that’s awesome.’ He was just like, ‘Hello, oh that’s great oh great,’ hey my book went number one, everybody.'”

“We were like, ‘ugh,'” he added with a grimace making it clear no one was buying Trump’s fake news.
