President Trump Reportedly Under Investigation for Obstruction of Justice
Robert Mueller, the special counsel looking into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election, is apparently investigating whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice.
The Washington Post detailed the reported development in Mueller’s investigation in a Wednesday article. The newspaper touted the “major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.”
The Post‘s report cited unnamed officials, who claimed that “the obstruction of justice investigation into the president began days after Comey was fired on May 9… Mueller’s office has now taken up that work, and the preliminary interviews scheduled with intelligence officials indicate his team is actively pursuing potential witnesses inside and outside the government.”
One of the publication’s anonymous sources underlined that these interviews “suggest Mueller sees the attempted obstruction of justice question as more than just a ‘he said, he said’ dispute between the president and the fired FBI director.”
Muller’s investigators are also reportedly trying to track down “any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates.”
After the Post published its article, President Trump’s attorneys responded to the newspaper’s reporting by blasting the apparent leak.
