Steve King: Ferguson Protesters Can’t Be Racially Profiled, Because They Share a ‘Continental Origin’
Today, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told Newsmax that he didn’t believe that racial profiling was effective in Ferguson, Mo., the town where Michael Brown was shot and the scene of a harsh police crackdown against protesters. But not for the reason you’d think: according to him, it’s because there are too many black people in Ferguson, so what’s the point of racial profiling?
King somehow interpreted the Congressional Black Caucus’s call for an investigation into the police department’s racial profiling practices as the Caucus “saying, ‘don’t enforce the law.'”
“This idea of no racial profiling — I’ve seen the video. It looks to me like you don’t need to bother with that particular factor because they all appear to be of a single origin, I should say,” he said today.
“A ‘continental origin’ might be the way to phrase that,” he clarified.
He then quickly added the I-Don’t-See-Race point by saying “I just reject race-based politics.”
