Surveillance Video Shows Cop Accidentally Shooting Himself in Elevator

An off-duty Kentucky police officer accidentally shot himself in the stomach in Cincinnati over the weekend while he was on his way back from dinner with his wife.

According to WTSPDarryl Jouett of the Erlanger, Kentucky Police Department was adjusting the department-issued .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun in its holster when it accidentally discharged. The bullet struck Jouett in the stomach and ricocheted off the walls of the elevator. His wife was not injured.

Capt. Mike John of the Cincinnati Police Department told WTSP that the situation was “very unusual.”

Amazingly, Jouett, a 25-year veteran of the Erlanger Police Department, survived the whole thing and was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. As of Monday, the city of Erlanger said on Facebook that Jouett is resting at home with his family:
