Suspected Murdoch Attacker: ‘It Is A Far Better Thing I Do…Than I Have Ever Done…#Splat’

The suspected pie (or foam) thrower who took a slug from ninja-like Murdoch wife Wendi Deng has been identified as a comedian who uses the name Jonnie Marbles. His blog reveals little, other than a bio which reads (in full) “Jonnie Marbles is not the real name of this writer, comedian, activist and blogger.” As journalists scramble to dig into Mr. Marbles’ (sigh…sorry) background, many observers have already underlined the public relations fallout of the pie attack, as James Wolcott writes on Vanity Fair‘s website, “this guy has made Murdoch senior look vulnerable and sympathetic and Wendi heroic. Well done, fool.”

Marbles used his Twitter account to hint at the attack on Murdoch, tweeting to his nearly 10,000 followers “It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat.” Marbles was taken away in handcuffs, but not before taking a much-discussed punch from Rupert Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng, prompting MP Tom Watson to deliver a tabloid-headline ready remark: “Mr. Murdoch, your wife has a very good left hook.”
