TMZ caught up with Sen. Ted Cruz as he was disembarking from Reagan National Airport to hear his thoughts on the recent flap over Colin Kaepernick.
The onetime presidential candidate was predictably peeved at the insolence of “rich, spoiled athletes” like Kaepernick who stirred up controversy by refusing to rise for the national anthem in order to protest police brutality.
People like Kaepernick “didn’t recognize what an incredible blessing this country is,” Cruz said, adding that it was “very easy to disrespect this country” when “you’re sitting there, rolling in millions of dollars.”
Cruz also took shots at the president, who had voiced his support for the embattled 49er, saying he had been exercising his right to free to speech.
“That’s not the job of the president.,” Cruz said. “The president should be standing up for America, and the president should be encouraging every American to honor the flag that so many Americans have bled and died for and to honor the freedom that it stands for.”
