He’s still going.
President Trump is now setting his sights on Roger Goodell after the NFL commissioner defended professional football players and their right to protest.
In the last 24 hours, Trump has feuded with figures from all over the sports world. The president began last night by referring to athletes who kneel during the national anthem as “sons of bitches,” adding that anyone in the NFL who protests in such a fashion ought to be fired.
Earlier today, Goodell reacted to Trump’s comments in a statement, “Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect.”
Goodell continued his response to the president by stating his attacks show a “failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities” — however, he did not mention Trump by name or explicitly list his controversial comments.
The president of the NFL Players Union, DeMaurice Smith, added onto Goodell’s response by saying, “The balance between the rights of every citizen in our great country gets crossed when someone is told to just ‘shut up and play.'”
