‘That’s Total BS’: Orrin Hatch Gets Testy After CNN Grilling on Gorsuch
As many Senate Democrats are trying to block Neil Gorsuch‘s appointment to the Supreme Court, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) got a tough grilling on CNN Monday over why it was okay for the Republicans to do the same thing last year when Merrick Garland was the nominee.
Asked by CNN’s John Berman and Poppy Harlow about what Berman said “seems to be a double standard,” the Utah Senator offered a testy response.
“I’ll tell you straight out that’s total BS what you’re saying there,” Hatch said. “Because I can’t go back in time and show you any case where during a presidential election year where we had a Supreme Court Justice be nominated unless both sides agreed. And both sides didn’t agree.”
Berman pointed out that prior to Garland’s nomination to the Court, Hatch praised him on numerous occasions.
“The Republicans acted properly, within their procedural rights,” Hatch said. ” I think they did it properly. Even though I like Merrick Garland personally. I think it was the right thing to do.
