Donald Trump made his first congressional endorsement this week, and the Republican incumbent he offered his support to just lost the GOP primary race for her seat.
Trump endorsed North Carolina congresswoman Renee Ellmers and even did robocalls for her. But tonight, she was defeated by her colleague George Holding, who decided to run in her district after the latest round of redistricting.
Ellmers is the first incumbent Republican to lose a primary race this election cycle.
This final day of the campaign was particularly noteworthy because Ellmers remarked on another woman’s weight and got pilloried for it.
And on top of all that, Ellmers’ 2014 Democratic opponent––none other than Clay Aiken––gave her a mocking send-off:
