For the most part, Disney’s live-action version of Beauty And The Beast will be familiar. The characters, and the songs, and Belle’s iconic yellow dress will all be there. There’s one thing, however, that’s totally new. Attitude, a British magazine is reporting that the new movie will feature Disney’s first openly gay character.

LeFou, Gaston’s faithful sidekick and friend played by Josh Gad, will reportedly have a gay subplot. Director Bill Condon told the magazine, “LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” adding, “He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings.”

Condon says that it is a “it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
