The Onion REALLY Ramps Up the Redskins Debate, Stuns the Internet

The Onion has skirted the magical, unspoken, legendary “line” between the funny and the outlandish many, many times, and the latest example of such has the internet buzzing. The satirical paper has been on the forefront of the debate over whether the Redskins’ name should be changed, but this time The Onion made a point about racial slurs by dropping quite a few of their own.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is Jewish, and The Onion took great pains to let us know that.

“The Redskins represent 81 years of great history and tradition, and it’s a source of pride for our fans,” said the hook-nosed kike, stressing that the team’s insulting moniker is “absolutely not a racial slur by any means.”

We all obviously know the point The Onion is trying to make, but given the nature of the piece the reactions have, needless to say, been mixed, with many simply just tweeting out how stunned they are, remaking on how “they went there.”

This, of course, has ripped open the debate over that damn “line” again, though Slate’s Dave Weigel took a slightly different approach the last time The Onion attempted a satirical “campaign” of sorts, saying that the paper is just coming out with a lot of easily-shareable stories now that “just restate what a certain sort of liberal thinks.”
