‘The President Looked Like a Third-Grader’: CNN Political Director Hammers Trump’s Tucker Interview
Following the announcement from the Senate Intelligence Committee that they haven’t seen any evidence of surveillance at Trump Tower prior to the election, CNN political director David Chalian lit into President Donald Trump for his comments about wiretapping during an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.
With anchor Wolf Blitzer pointing out that this statement was a “rebuke” of the president after Trump had “doubled down on his accusations” in the Tucker interview, Chalian weighed in with some tough words.
“Yesterday on Fox he was still trying to worm his way out of the lie about wiretapping on that word,” he exclaimed. “Saying you’re going to see in next couple weeks — something’s gonna come out — saying surveillance more broadly. They say no!”
After noting that Congress and the intelligence community have now put the president in a situation where he can “no longer justify not retracting those tweets.” Chalian then smacked Trump over how that interview came off.
“The president looked like a third-grader in that interview yesterday trying to squirm out of a lie,” he told Blitzer.
He added later, “It’s just not okay for the President of the United States to make this unsubstantiated claim.”
