‘The Problem Is the Rats!’: Stelter Criticizes Trump’s Press Gaffes With Apt Restaurant Metaphor
This morning, President Donald Trump suggested that the White House may cancel press briefings after his administration came under fire for giving contradictory information surrounding Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey.
During a CNN panel discussion including PR pros, CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter piggybacked on what former Jeb Bush communications director Tim Miller and ex-Marco Rubio communications director Alex Conant had stated. Essentially, one can’t expect a press team to deliver if the person they’re working for has a history of dishonesty.
Stelter hammered this point home by comparing the situation at the White House with that of a rat-infested restaurant.
“It is kind of like if I open a restaurant, John,” Stelter told host John Berman. “And the restaurant has a rat infestation and I say, ‘Oh, the problem is the marketing — the problem is the sign outside.’ If I put a new sign outside, the restaurant will be fine.”
He continued, “No, the problem is the rats! And I think that is the takeaway I experienced this week.”
Stelter reassured the panel and audience at home a bit later that he would not be opening a restaurant anytime soon.
