The Ratings Are In for Bruce Jenner’s Big ABC News Special

According to Nielsen, close to 17 million people were tuned in to watch Bruce Jenner‘s big interview on ABC News last night, in which the Olympian decathlete said very clearly, “For all intents and purposes, I am a woman.”

Jenner opened up to Diane Sawyer in the 2-hour special, talking about coming to grips with his sexual identity, explaining the difference between gender and sexuality, and revealing how his loved ones reacted.

A whopping 16.9 million people watched the Jenner special, which also got a 5.2 rating from the 18-49 demographic, and a 6.4 from the 25-54 demographic.

On top of that, It was the biggest non-sports-related event watched on a Friday since 2003.

As for its online reach, the Jenner interview drew close to one million tweets overall.

Tons of celebrities, media figures, and even some members of Jenner’s own family have been tweeting out their reactions since last night in support of Jenner’s transition, which will be chronicled in an upcoming E! docuseries.
