‘This Bill is a Lump of Coal’: GOP Congressman Rips ‘Disastrous’ Republican Healthcare Bill
Appearing on CNN this morning, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) lit into the Obamacare replacement bill that is being pushed by his House leadership, calling the plan the “largest welfare program sponsored by republicans” in history.
Joining with other conservative House and Senate member who have also expressed their disapproval with the proposal — calling it Obamacare Lite — Brooks told CNN hosts John Berman and Poppy Harlow that it “undermines the work ethic, it increases greater reliance on welfare of a federal government that is headed towards insolvency and bankruptcy.”
Referencing Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and his attempts to convince conservatives in Congress that this is a good bill, Brooks had some interesting things to say about Ryan’s remarks.
“It’s akin to Christmas where that oratory is pretty but you open up the present and it’s a lump of coal,” the Alabama lawmaker stated. “This bill is a lump of coal.”
He added, “And it is the largest welfare program ever proposed by Republicans in the history of the Republican Party. It’s going to be disastrous for our deficit and debt long term.”
Brooks would go on to say that he would try to convince President Donald Trump to be “financially responsible” and argue with the hosts over polls that show the majority of Americans support Obamacare.
