‘This Genie Cannot Be Put Back in the Bottle’: Dana Bash on Comey’s Trump/Russia Bombshell
With FBI Director James Comey announcing today that there is an active investigation into potential collusion between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian government, CNN chief political correspondent Dana Bash commented that Comey will need to now be the one to publicly broadcast the findings.
“Look, this genie cannot be put back in the bottle,” Bash noted. “It’s out there. It’s official. It’s formal. Under oath, in public testimony, that this investigation is going on.”
After mentioning that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes asked Comey to get this investigation wrapped up fast, Bash added that the FBI Chief will need to come out and tell everyone the agency’s conclusion.
“What that does mean is that we’re going to hear either Comey do what he did with the Clinton investigation,” she explained. “Come out and say no indictments, there is no ‘there’ there, or not.”
She concluded, “It’s going to happen and have to happen publicly because of the fact that the investigation is going on was broadcast in such a public way.”
