This Happened: Herman Cain Offered Henry Kissinger Secretary Of State Position
Republican falling star Herman Cain might be regretting his sit-down interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editorial board as damning new video footage continues to trickle out. When asked what people he would consider to be in his administration, the former Godfather Pizza CEO suggested 88-year-old Henry Kissinger, who previously served as President Nixon‘s secretary of state from 1973 to 1977.
“Dr. Kissinger turned my offer down to be secretary of state,” Cain replied, eliciting nervous laughter from a reporter. “He said he’s perfectly happy doing what he’s doing.”
The curious aside was plucked from Cain’s 45 minute Q&A, which Cain’s staff has since criticized.
Cain Communications Director J.D. Gordon called the newspaper’s video “out of context in some measure.”
“Trying to spin it and say it was edited or handled some other way is just not accurate,” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editor Martin Kaiser said earlier on CNN.
