‘This is Government! This is Not!’: Spicer Refers to Paper Stacks to Show Differences Between ACA and AHCA
During today’s White House press briefing, White House press secretary Sean Spicer was asked about complaints from some conservatives about the GOP’s replacement healthcare bill — with some calling it Obamacare Lite — and whether President Donald Trump would be confident that he fully repealed the Affordable Care Act.
After going into what the new bill offers in comparison to the current law, stating that it creates more competition and that there’s a “big difference,” the press sec then referred to a stage prop that had been set up next to him.
Pointing to a small table with two stacks of paper — one representing Obamacare and and much smaller stack supposedly the American Health Care Act — Spicer began running off the major differences between the two.
“For all the people who have concerns about this, especially on the right,” Spicer exclaimed. “Look at the size!”
He continued, “This is the Democrats. This is us. You can’t get any clearer in terms of this is government! This is not!”
Earlier in the briefing, HHS Secretary Tom Price also pointed to the table, asking reporters to “notice how thick” the Obamacare stack was.
