In an interview with CNN, the daughter of Saddam Hussein commented on President-elect Donald Trump and expressed hope that he’ll be better for her estranged country of Iraq than previous administrations.
Explaining that she blames the United States for the chaos and destabilization that has ravaged Iraq, Raghad Saddam Hussein heaped praise on Trump:
“This man has just arrived to the leadership … But from what is apparent, this man has a high level of political sensibility, that is vastly different than the one who preceded him,” she told CNN. “He exposed the mistakes of the others, specifically in terms of Iraq, which means he is very aware of the mistakes made in Iraq and what happened to my father.”
During the campaign, Trump insisted that he was against the Iraq War from the very beginning, despite there being no record of him making such claims until more than a year after the invasion. Trump has also said that Saddam Hussein should have been left in power because he was very good at killing terrorists.
Currently, Raghad is living in Jordan since escaping Iraq in 2003 after the invasion. According to CNN, the current Iraqi government accuses her of supporting ISIS, a claim she denies.
