This Unbelievable Catch of a Flying Bat Might Have Prevented Serious Injury
Now this is a catch. And it just might have prevented serious injury.
During Thursday afternoon’s spring training game between the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins, Mets minor-leaguer Luis Guillorme was standing on the top step of the dugout watching the action. Adeiny Hechavarria was at the plate for Miami, and he lost control of his bat as he swung at a pitch low and away.
A number of Mets ducked and went scurrying for cover. But not Guillorme. The young shortstop casually plucked the knob of the bat out of the air as it went flying past his shoulder, and made the catch — potentially saving one of his teammates from injury.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me!” said Mets announcer Ron Darling.
“I’ve never seen that,” colleague Keith Hernandez added.
