TNT Cancels Modern-Day Civil War Series For Hitting ‘Too Close to Home’ Following Election

trumpclinton811-e1470947773422-2TNT has cancelled its planned Civil series, reportedly because a show about a modern-day American Civil War felt a little too similar to real-life political discontent following the presidential election.

Deadline reports that the series would have starred TV drama veterans like Bradley Whitford and Courtney B. Vance in a story set “in the wake of a hotly contested Presidential election, as America finds itself plunging uncontrollably into a modern day Civil War.” TNT executives were initially excited about how the project sounded “ominously close to real-life current events,” filming the pilot over the summer with plans to air the series in January.

But when the pilot was finished, top brass suddenly soured on the project. “A decision was made not to rush the project to series. The network eventually passed on it. Some observers say it may have felt too close to home,” Deadline reports.
