We are smack dab in the middle of the holiday season so chances are good that, at some point recently, you or someone you know had a bit too much to drink at a Christmas Party, office holiday party, stressful family dinner, or in the dressing room of your local mall’s Macy’s because, dammit, why won’t this shopping just end?! If so, then you’ll probably get a kick out of the latest edition of Drunk History. For those that don’t know, it’s a web series created by Derek Waters for Funny or Die in which he gets his comedian friends incredibly drunk, has them attempt to retell famous, historical stories, and then gets celebrities to reenact the resulting ramblings (this Ben Franklin story featuring Jack Black will give you an idea). The most recent episode is a special Christmas episode featuring Ryan Gosling, Jim Carrey, Eva Mendes, and a not particularly faithful retelling of “T’was the Night Before Christmas.”
Waters had comedian Allan McLeod drink quite a bit of whiskey and then do his best to tell the classic story. It’s pretty unfair. I mean, I can’t remember those reindeer names stone cold sober. As he tells the story, it’s performed by Carrey as Santa Claus and Gosling and Mendes as the married couple (man, imagine what their children would look like) whose house he visits.
It’s all pretty great and certainly the best Christmas-related thing Jim Carrey’s ever done.
