‘Totally and Completely Gutted’: Billy Bush Opens Up About Access Hollywood Trump Tape
Billy Bush has opened up for the first time since his infamous Access Hollywood conversation with Donald Trump came to public light.
While Trump’s presidential campaign managed to survive the “pussygate” scandal, the former Today host largely went quiet ever since NBC fired him amid the fallout. Bush gave an interview to Hollywood Reporter this weekend, where he talked about his regrets and how the tape has factored into his life since its release.
“Looking back upon what was said on that bus, I wish I had changed the topic,” said Bush. “[Trump] liked TV and competition. I could’ve said, ‘Can you believe the ratings on whatever?’ But I didn’t have the strength of character to do it.”
Bush said that he tried to avoid re-watching the video ever since it came out, and that he felt “totally and completely gutted” in the few times where he came back to it. Bush said he’s not sure how the tape got out, and that “I am not grateful for the moment…But I’m grateful for what I’ve gotten out of it. I’m grateful that it hit me all the way to my core.”
Bush also disputed Trump’s justification of the comments as just “locker room talk.”
