Trump Bashes CNN, Defends Signing MAGA Hats For Troops: ‘Can You Imagine My Saying NO?’

President Donald Trump is defending his decision to autograph Make America Great Again hats for U.S. troops in Germany.

In a Thursday evening tweet, the president ripped CNN and “others within the Fake News Universe” for their coverage of his signing for the troops.

“CNN & others within the Fake News Universe were going wild about my signing MAGA hats for our military in Iraq and Germany,” Trump wrote. “If these brave young people ask me to sign their hat, I will sign. Can you imagine my saying NO? We brought or gave NO hats as the Fake News first reported!”

A Department of Defense regulation on the subject of political activities states: “active duty personnel may not engage in partisan political activities and all military personnel should avoid the inference that their political activities imply or appear to imply DoD sponsorship, approval, or endorsement of a political candidate, campaign, or cause.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told CNN that the hats were not distributed by the White House, but were brought personally by the troops.
