Trump Chides Cruz for Failing to Back Him: ‘He May Have Ruined His Political Career’
Addressing his supporters Friday morning, Donald Trump scolded Sen. Ted Cruz for his failure to issue a ringing endorsement of the reality TV star during his speech Wednesday night. “Honestly, he may have ruined his political career,” Trump said.
Cruz would come around and endorse in the next couple of days “because he has no choice,” Trump insisted. “But I don’t want his endorsement. What difference does it make? I don’t want his endorsement. I have such great en — I don’t want his endorsement. Just, Ted, stay home, relax, enjoy yourself,” he added.
“If he gives it [his endorsement], I will not accept it,” he said later.
Trump speculated that he would set up a Super-PAC to sink Cruz’s campaign if he decided to run in 2020. “Are you allowed to set up a Super-PAC, Mike, if you are the president?” he asked.
He specifically chastised Cruz for changing his speech at the last minute, adding a sentence, “which could have been viewed as a nasty thing,” Trump said. “To me, that’s dishonorable.”
