Trump: Golf Orgs Agree with Me on Mexico; Golf Orgs: Uh, No We Don’t
Donald Trump is the gift that keeps on giving. In short succession, his comments about Mexican immigrant rapists and criminals pissed off Univision, NBC, and Macy’s. But Trump also owns a bunch of golf courses all over the country, with ties to the Professional Golf Association, the PGA of America, the Ladies’ PGA, and the U.S. Golf Association.
In an interview yesterday with Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte, Trump didn’t seem worried about them denouncing him too. He said, “I’ve had tremendous support from the golf world, because they all know I’m right. I’ve been great to golf. I’ve been investing while everybody else was fleeing.”
Go ahead and guess what happened next.
Yep, all four groups today issued a joint statement really denouncing Trump’s comments:
“In response to Mr. Trump’s comments about the golf industry ‘knowing he is right’ in regards to his recent statements about Mexican immigrants, we feel compelled to clarify that those remarks do not reflect the views of our organizations,” the statement read.
“While the LPGA, PGA of America, PGA Tour and USGA do not usually comment on Presidential politics, Mr. Trump’s comments are inconsistent with our strong commitment to an inclusive and welcoming environment in the game of golf.”
Why don’t we just make this easier on everyone and have all of humanity issue a statement distancing itself from Trump?
