Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski returned Tuesday from a quick vacation, seemingly to celebrate Brzezinski’s 50th birthday. In the opening minutes of their show, the two appeared to let bygones be bygones after last week’s lovers quarrel and jumped into their favorite bonding activity: Astonishment over President Donald Trump’s latest outrage.
Scarborough took particular exception to the President’s claim that nobody was asking about why “we even had a Civil War”
“My mother’s has had dementia for 10 years,” he said. “That sounds like the sort of thing my mother would say today.”
“That’s something that a 5-year-old might ask, but that is not anything that any grown up that I have been around in my entire life would ever let pass from their lips,” he said. “That has been the central question of how did America begin as our original sin and how did we move past that original sin in part through the Civil War.”
Not to be outdone, show mainstay Mike Barnicle offered his own grave invocations.
“The question is one of the single most posed questions in the life of this country,” he said, “It’s very upsetting, kind of depressing to read the transcripts of this president.”
