Trump Looks Forward to Running Against ‘Nice Guy’ Kanye in 2020

Leave it to Rolling Stone to get Donald Trump’s first reaction to Kanye West’s 2020 presidential announcement at this week’s MTV VMAs, and the subsequent comparisons between the rapper and the GOP frontrunner that followed.

Trump told Rolling Stone he doesn’t “quite get” the analogies drawn between West and himself, but added, “He’s said very nice things about me in the past… extremely positive things,” and is friendly with his daughter Ivanka Trump.

“I was actually watching,” Trump admitted, “I saw him do it, and I said, ‘That’s very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea?'” The candidate also sounded disappointed that Miley Cyrus said she was going to vote for Trump before West entered the hypothetical race.

“He’s actually a different kind of person than people think. He’s a nice guy,” Trump added, perhaps alluding to that time President Barack Obama called West as a “jackass” on a hot mic. “I hope to run against him someday.”

As for the kind things West has said about Trump in the past, could the candidate have been referring to the lyrics for his song “So Appalled?”

“I’m so appalled, Spalding ball / Balding, Donald Trump taking dollars from y’all,” West rapped on the track from 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. “Baby, you’re fired, your girlfriend hired / But if you don’t mind, I’mma keep you on call.”
