Trump: Romney Wouldn’t ‘Rehire Himself for 2016’
Though Donald Trump enthusiastically endorsed Republican Mitt Romney for president in 2012, the billionaire game show host has had about enough of the chatter that Romney might make a third attempt at the White House.
Over the course of the last 24 hours, Trump has come out hard against the idea of Romney running again, after having lost last time to President Obama.
“If Mitt Romney were in the private sector and he suffered the horrendous loss of 2012, do you think he’d rehire himself for 2016?—I don’t!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.
In a separate interview with Breitbart News, Trump said Romney “had his chance and he blew it.”
Looks like whatever flame the two had between them is out. Even if Trump said it was “nothing personal” in the Breitbart interview.
It may have something to do with the Daily Mail reporting shortly before Election Day in 2012 that Romney aides thought Trump had become an embarrassment to the campaign.
Romney has been somewhat wishy-washy on whether he will run again. Trump has said he might and will make a decision after the new year.
