Trump Tries to Convince Kimmel He Has Muslim Support: ‘They Call Me and Say Thank You’
One night after starring centerstage at the CNN GOP Debate, frontrunner Donald Trump visited Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday. Predictably, the host of the show cornered the Presidential candidate on his recent incendiary comments proposing a ban of all Muslims entering the United States.
“You, I assume, have a group of advisors… did anyone try and talk you out of saying ‘We should temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United States?'” Kimmel asked.
Although Trump conceded that not all of his Muslims friends “were thrilled” with his comments, the real estate mogul continued to insist that overall, members of the Islamic faith support his proposed ban. Trump replied, “Many of them called me and said, ‘You know Donald, you’re right. We have a problem.”
Kimmel earned a huge applause from the audience when he pushed Trump more directly on the issue: “But isn’t it un-American and wrong to discriminate against people based on their religion?”.
Trump — whose lead in the GOP polls has been virtually unchallenged for several months — continued, “I’ve had so many people call me and say thank you… the people that are friends of mine that called have said ‘Donald you’ve done us a tremendous service.'”
“Those may have been crank calls,” joked Kimmel.
