Trump to Launch 2016 Exploratory Committee, Drop The Apprentice

Claiming he’s “the only one who can make America truly great again!” plutocrat loudmouth Donald Trump told the New Hampshire Union Leader Tuesday night that he was not renewing his contract to host The Apprentice and would instead form an exploratory committee to run for president in 2016.

Trump has bandied about a presidential run in the past, most notably in 2012, to the point that many have concluded it’s a self-promotional scam. However this is the first time Trump has formed an exploratory committee, a major funding step toward running for realzies.

Trump claimed, not convincingly, his NBC contract prevented him from running in 2012, so his staff boasted that his possible rejection of the new contract indicated his seriousness. “Nobody in the history of television has turned down a renewal,” a spokesperson told the Union Leader. “But Mr. Trump can do that.”

Oddly, this morning was the first time Trump has not tweeted about running for president.

UPDATE 11:04 p.m.: Per Politico’s Dylan Byers, NBC is still planning to go ahead with the next season of The Apprentice, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
