Following widespread reports that Paul Ryan told other congressional Republicans he won’t be defending Donald Trump in remaining days until the election, Trump has used Twitter to wag his finger at the Speaker of the House.
Paul Ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs and illegal immigration and not waste his time on fighting Republican nominee
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 10, 2016
The relationship between Ryan and his party’s nominee has been testy for a few days, at least. Last Friday, audio of Trump speaking in very lewd terms about sexual assault leaked, causing dozens of members of the GOP to turn their backs on Trump. Quickly after the leak, it was announced that Trump would no longer be joining Ryan at an event in Wisconsin. VP nominee Mike Pence was scheduled to join Ryan at the event, but then it was announced that he wasn’t going, either.
Trump’s rebuke has gone unanswered thus far.
