For years and years now, Donald Trump has been bragging about how The Apprentice is the number one show on television. The truth of that claim has… fluctuated, shall we say.
Trump spoke to the Television Critics Association today, and made that very case. This was just some of the response he got:
Donald Trump proclaims the second hour of #CelebrityApprentice as the No. 1 show on television. FWIW, it is not. #tca15

“The second show is the No.1 show on television,” says Donald Trump who… doesn’t follow ratings? #TCA15
— Daniel Fienberg (@HitFixDaniel) January 16, 2015
Trump is just making up ratings info here about the show being #1 and #2 on TV. so delusional.
— Diane Gordon (@thesurfreport) January 16, 2015
Donald Trump is either a liar or just plain dumb. He just once again claimed #CelebrityApprentice is TV's No. 1 show. It's not. #TCA15

Annnnnnd, AGAIN. The man has no fear about facts….Donald Trump, No. 1 at spin.
— Tim Goodman (@BastardMachine) January 16, 2015
Nobody spins like Trump. Nobody. It’s just bloviation.

Trump clarifies that #CelebApprentice is #1 in 18-49 for the night it airs. Blerg. #TCA15
— Diane Gordon (@thesurfreport) January 16, 2015
This week, “Celebrity Apprentice” was behind “Mike & Molly” and a “Big Bang Theory” repeat in the 18-49 demo. #TCA15
— Daniel Fienberg (@HitFixDaniel) January 16, 2015
Last Monday, “Celebrity Apprentice” finished behind “Mike & Molly,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Scorpion” and “Gotham” in the 18-49 demo. #TCA15
— Daniel Fienberg (@HitFixDaniel) January 16, 2015
In its Sunday premiere, “Celebrity Apprentice” finished behind 3 FOX comedies in the 18-49 demo. #TCA15
— Daniel Fienberg (@HitFixDaniel) January 16, 2015
So that’s zero nights out of three in which “Celebrity Apprentice” has ACTUALLY finished No.1 in the 18-49 demo. #TCA15
— Daniel Fienberg (@HitFixDaniel) January 16, 2015
But it wasn’t just that, according to several reports from TCA15, when Trump made that claim there was audible laughter in the room.
He eventually backed down, after being grilled further:
Grilled on the ratings by @HitFixDaniel, Trump finally backs down. “That’s just what I heard,” says. Vanquished.
— Tim Goodman (@BastardMachine) January 16, 2015
And finally, as is customary with Trump, there was just a bit of ego-tripping:
Trump says nobody heard of Trace Adkins before he was on "Celebrity Apprentice." He may beg to differ. #TCA15
— Roger Catlin (@rcatlin) January 16, 2015
"The Republican party of New York State wanted me to run for Governor…I said right from the beginning no," Trump. #CelebApprentice #TCA15
