NBC News senior vice president and chief digital officer Vivian Schiller announced Thursday that she will be taking on a new role as Twitter’s “head of news.” Naturally, Schiller made the announcement on Twitter:
The position is a new one for Twitter, which has been looking for someone to act as a liaison between media outlets and the microblogging service. All Thing D reported earlier this month that Schiller was a “lock” for the position, but it did not become official until today.
Schiller joined NBC News in 2011 after a controversial exit as CEO of NPR. She was forced of her position at that company by the board after NPR reporter Ron Schiller (no relation) was caught on hidden camera making disparaging comments about tea party conservatives.
