Two People Listed on Missing Plane Passenger Manifest Say Passports Were Stolen

Two individuals who were on the passenger manifest for the missing Malaysian Airlines plane were not on board the plane. An Italian and an Austrian were both listed as being on the plane, but they confirmed separately to officials that their passports were stolen over a year ago, and coincidentally, both passports were reported as stolen in Thailand.

And because of this oversight, U.S. officials are now concerned that the B777 might have gone missing due to terrorism, though they’re not saying anything definitive yet.

“We are aware of the reporting on the two stolen passports,” one senior official said. “We have not determined a nexus to terrorism yet, although it’s still very early, and that’s by no means definitive.”

The most recent development thus far is that Vietnamese air force planes spotted two big oil slicks around the area where the plane reportedly went missing.
