John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament, said earlier today that he does not want President Trump addressing that chamber.
Bercow said, “I would not wish to issue an invitation to President Trump to speak in the Royal Gallery.”
Trump is set to make a state visit and meet with Prime Minister Theresa May, who has publicly slammed calls that the visit be cancelled.
Bercow said if a state visit happens, that’s one thing, but he’s taking a stand where he can:
“As far as this place is concerned, I feel very strongly that our opposition to racism and to sexism and our support for equality before the law and an independent judiciary are hugely important considerations in the House of Commons.”
